Hereford Jive & Swing was founded in December 2009 by a group of local dancers (not teachers) frustrated at the lack of local dances. During 2010 we organised a series of dances in Hereford, mainly 'record hops' but some bands also. In January 2011 Susan took over the solo running and organisation of the group and, after a year of several sell-out band nights alongside regular 'record hops', 2012 sees an expanded programme (see below). The Group is non-profitmaking with any proceeds going to cover investment in equipment and music, and to subsidise an increasing programme of live bands. The more support the dances get, the more we can organise - so come along and have some fun! And please give feedback!
Dancers of all styles are welcome, as are non-dancing partners who want to listen and watch. If you're a beginner or rusty, the dances are a great place to gain confidence and practise moves - especially the 'record hops' which are more relaxed than 'band nights'. If you have no partner, don't worry - we're a friendly lot and there are plenty of 'singles', so you won't be left out.

Still tickets available for Sultana Brothers
Just to say there are still some tickets left for The Sultana Brothers tomorrow night in Leominster ... see my last post for full details. I have pre-sold a lot of tickets, so it should be a good night, but as it's a bigger venue there is space for more people .... but don't come too late if you've not got a ticket! Ring me on 01432 357859 before 5.30 tomorrow to have a ticket held on the door ... leave a message on the machine if I don't answer. After that time, I'll have left to set-up the hall. Look forward to a good night!

The Sultana Brothers in Leominster
Our first dance at our new (additional) venue in Leominster will be on Friday, 16 March with popular local band 'The Sultana Brothers'. They sold out for the last gig they did for us in Hereford, and hopefully the same will happen in Leominster ... it would be a great way to kick off our new series of Friday night Leominster dances if it did! The band create a great party atmosphere with a great mix of '50s, '60s, r&b, blues, rock, etc and if you go to www.myspace.com/thesultanabrothers you will hear a sample of their music... but note that they have a wide repertoire and not all the stuff on the website is suitable for our requirements. They will be playing as set for jive and swing dancing.
The new venue is The Royal British Legion Club in Leominster - full venue details are on the venue page above. It's a big place with a great floor, and will hopefully prove popular. Numbers will be limited to allow space for dancing, so make sure you get your ticket in advance or check availability before travelling. £8 in advance or £10 on the door, if any are left. The evening runs 8.00-11.30 pm. Ring Susan on 01432 357859 or email herefordjive@btinternet.com.
